Online in Ontario
iGaming in Ontario, the basics
Ontario has had a regulated online gambling market since April 4, 2022. This page explains who runs it, who regulates it and how a reader can check whether a site belongs to it.
Who runs the market
Ontario's regulated online gambling market opened on April 4, 2022. iGaming Ontario conducts and manages it. The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, the AGCO, regulates it. So two bodies share the work: one runs the market, the other regulates it.
A private online casino is legal in Ontario only with two things: AGCO registration and an operating agreement with iGaming Ontario. The list of regulated sites is published by iGaming Ontario at igamingontario.ca. OLG.ca is a different case. It is the online casino of the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, the provincial agency.
Two conditions apply to the player. Online play in Ontario is for people 19 or older, the same legal age that applies to casinos in the province. Bets can be placed only while the player is physically in Ontario.
How to check a site
The check runs against one list. iGaming Ontario publishes the regulated sites at igamingontario.ca. A reader looks for the name of the site there before going any further.
Legality for a private online casino in Ontario rests on two conditions. It needs registration with the AGCO and an operating agreement with iGaming Ontario. Both have to be in place. The list shows which sites are regulated, so a name that does not appear on it is not one of them.
Blocking yourself
BetGuard, at betguard.ca, covers online play. iGaming Ontario has run it since May 14, 2026. A person can use it to exclude themselves from all regulated Ontario online gambling sites, OLG.ca included. Terms are 6 months, 1 year, 5 years or a custom term. It does not cover land-based casinos.
OLG's My PlayBreak handles casinos. It sets a self-exclusion of 3 or 6 months or 1 to 5 years, and a casino break bars entry to any Ontario casino. Enrolment goes through the OLG Support Centre at 1-800-387-0098, through staff on site or at a PlaySmart Centre. Once chosen, the term cannot be cancelled early.
Paid links on this site
This page carries no paid links, and neither does any other inner page. Paid links sit only on the home page, each marked Ad. There are three: one in the menu, one in a block just below the first screen and one near the end. All three lead to the same online casino partner.
The site earns a commission, and the partner can change. The links are for Ontario only: players must be physically located in Ontario. Casinos, OLG, the province and help services never pay this site, and it offers readers no rewards.
